Due to the Fourth of July holiday, Saturday trash service moves to Friday, July 3. Friday hours will be 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
West Ottawa Public Schools Tax Collection Update
Due to West Ottawa schools not placing the Operating Millage Renewal Proposal and Sinking Fund Millage Proposal on the May ballot, they will not be collected on the 2020 Summer tax bills.
The change was to accommodate community/voter concerns with COVID-19. Both millages will be on the August ballot and if passed, they will be collected on the 2020 Winter tax bills.
Pigeon Lake – Entire Lake is Temporarily No-Wake
Effective June 18, 2020, the entire water area of Pigeon Lake is completely no-wake for a period of six months. In May, a public hearing was held to seek input on temporary measures for Pigeon Lake after many residents contacted the township. Following the public hearing, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources investigated and recommended a Temporary Watercraft Ordinance for Pigeon Lake. Following the DNR’s recommendation, the township board adopted the ordinance on June 11, 2020 and the ordinance became effective June 18, 2020. Signs posted at the launch and channel will reflect this change and this ordinance will be enforced by Ottawa County’s Marine Division.
New Wednesday Evening Hours
Beginning June 17, the township hours on Wednesday evenings are changing to better accommodate residents’ needs. Our new hours are 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Morning hours are unchanged and remain 9:00 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday.

Please take notice that a Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday July 1st, at 6:00 pm, at the Port Sheldon Township Hall, 16201 Port Sheldon Street, West Olive, Michigan. The public hearing is for the Port Sheldon Township Zoning Board of Appeals to hear and consider the following matter:
1. The request of Harley Domasik for a variance from Section 4.10 (17) of the Port Sheldon Township Zoning Ordinance – Parcel # 70-11-12-400-035, address: 8363 West Olive Road, West Olive MI.
Any persons interested in these matters may appear at such hearings in person or by agent or attorney.
Written comments will be received at the Township Office until the night of the hearing. Copies of the application and other documentation are on file at the township office for public inspection during regular business hours. Beginning June 15, Port Sheldon Township offices are opening to the public. We encourage you to contact us first via email or phone call to determine if your service can be handled without in-person contact.
Please follow the following safety procedures:
- Stay home if you are not feeling well.
- Wear a mask if you are medically able.
- Sanitize your hands upon entering our office. Sanitizer is available.
- Maintain a 6-foot physical distance between yourself and others.
- Stay behind our protective barriers where provided.

Port Sheldon Township Mourns the Death of Firefighter Adam Trowbridge
Port Sheldon Township mourns the loss of one of its own.
On Friday evening, June 5th, firefighter, Adam Trowbridge, was fatally injured in a car accident. Adam leaves behind his wife, Brianna, and his young daughter, Charlotte. On behalf of the Port Sheldon Township staff, community, and members of the Port Sheldon Fire Department, we extend our sincerest sympathy to Adam’s wife, daughter and his entire family.

The public advisory hearing scheduled for June 11, 2020 has been cancelled. The property owner has withdrawn the request. No further action is necessary.
Ottawa Conservation District’s Scrap Tire Recycling Event Postponed
The Ottawa Conservation District postponed its Scrap Tire Recycling Event from June 6th to August 8th. The location is also moving from Grand Haven to 12150 Ransom St. Holland, MI 49424. There is a limit of 10 tires per person, a limit of a 34″ diameter, and a fee of $1 per tire (CASH ONLY). Those who wish to participate must sign up for a drop off time, and that can be done at ottawacd.org or by calling (616) 842-5852 Ext. 5.
