*ATTENTION*
VOTERS IN THE WEST OTTAWA SCHOOL DISTRICT
THIS MESSAGE APPLIES ONLY TO WEST OTTAWA SCHOOL DISTRICT VOTERS
Earlier this week you may have received a letter from the Michigan Secretary of State.
The Michigan Secretary of State inadvertently included West Ottawa voters in their Absent Voter Application mailing for the May 5, 2020 Special Election, pursuant to Executive Order No. 2020-27. This mailing was intended for Grand Haven School District voters ONLY. The West Ottawa Public School district does NOT have a May election. PLEASE DISCARD THE LETTER AND APPLICATION.
West Ottawa Voters: Do NOT mail or return the application to the township as it will increase the workload of both election staff and postal workers unnecessarily.
Michigan’s Bureau of Elections apologizes for this error, inconvenience and any confusion its mailing may have caused.

April 9, 2020 Election Commission Meeting
May 5, 2020 Election – *IMPORTANT UPDATE*
Due to COVID-19 concerns, and after encouragement from state and local election officials, the West Ottawa School Board has removed their proposals from the May 5, 2020 election. Election law dictates the mailing date of absent voter applications and ballots, if requested. With the timing of West Ottawa’s withdrawal, many voters already submitted ballots and/or absent voter application requests.
If you are a voter in the West Ottawa School district, please DO NOT return absent voter applications. Voters who have already received a ballot are asked to destroy your ballot.
The Grand Haven School Board chose to have their renewal millage question remain on the May 5, 2020 election ballot. The governor has issued an executive order declaring elections on May 5, 2020 must be conducted to the greatest extent possible by absent voter ballots issued and submitted without in-person interaction. To this end, all registered voters (except those who have already requested a ballot) in the Grand Haven Public School district will be receiving a letter, along with an application for an absent voter ballot, from the state of Michigan. Voters who have already returned their application for an absent voter ballot need not return the state’s application when received.
If you are a voter in the Grand Haven School district and have already returned your application and/or received/returned your ballot, no action is required.
If you are a voter in the Grand Haven School district who has not returned your application for an absent voter ballot, please follow the instructions in the letter you will receive from the State of Michigan.
IN SHORT, IF YOU WANT TO VOTE IN THE MAY 5, 2020 ELECTION, YOU SHOULD APPLY FOR AN ABSENT VOTER BALLOT!
