Note from Township Supervisor regarding potholes on Butternut

As many have noted, Butternut Drive is showing a considerable amount of potholes.

The Ottawa County Road Commission (OCRC) has been trying to keep up with it this winter, utilizing cold patch, as this is the only option available until hot patch becomes available in the spring (April/May).

In addition, OCRC will be undertaking a complete mill and resurface project along Butternut Drive, from New Holland to Lakeshore in the spring/summer of 2023.

Closed Board of Trustees – Open Position

Board of Trustees – Open position

Gerald Smith has announced his retirement from the board of trustees, effective at the end of March 2023.

Gerry has faithfully served the township for 38 years, and his wisdom, insight and involvement will be greatly missed.

This is an elected position, however due to the timing of his resignation, the board can appoint someone to fill the remainder of the term. The appointee would need to run in the 2024 election if they intend on continuing in the position, which would be desired. Applicant should possess good people skills, a broad base of experience, and be a team player.

Please take notice that a Public Hearing will be held at the Port Sheldon Township Hall, 16201 Port Sheldon Street, West Olive, Michigan, by the Port Sheldon Township Planning Commission on February 22, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. to hear and consider the following matter(s):

Request from Redstone Land Development LLC for a Planned Unit Development consisting of 12 residential buildings at “0” Stanton St., West Olive, Michigan. Parcel #70-11-01-300-021

Request from 16050 Stanton, LLC for a Special Land Use for a Private Road at “0” Stanton St, West Olive, Michigan. Parcel # 70-11-03-200-017

Thanks for a great turnout!

Thanks for the great community turnout at our first trash bag day this Saturday! We were able to distribute over 175 boxes of trash bags to Township residents during regular Saturday trash pick-up. We will be planning more trash bag days for the future so stay tuned!

David VanGinhoven Trail dedication at Hemlock Crossing

On October 27, 2022, a dedication event was held for the David VanGinhoven Memorial Trail located at Hemlock Crossing. The trail is highlighted in pink- swipe for the map!

David was a resident of Port Sheldon Township and a member of the Port Sheldon Township Planning Commission from 2016-2020.

The plaque at the park honors David’s years of service and dedication to Ottawa County Parks and Recreation.

Trash service on New Years’ Eve

There will be regular trash service this Saturday, December 31 from 8-11 am.

Christmas Eve Trash Service Cancelled

Updated 12/22/2022: Trash is cancelled on December 24, 2022 due to impending inclement weather!

We have received confirmation from our trash service provider that trash service will be available on the Saturdays of Christmas Eve and New Years’ Eve from 8-11 am.
