• Port Sheldon Township, Ottawa County Michigan

    Port Sheldon Township is a general law Township established in 1924, consisting of approximately 20 square miles. The township is bordered by New Holland Street on the South, 144th Avenue on the East, Fillmore Street on the North and the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan on the West.

    A five-member board is elected at large to govern the Township, consisting of the Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and two Trustees. The Township population as of the 2010 Census was 4,240.

    Land use is primarily agricultural and used as residential with a small amount of commercial property along US 31 and Butternut Drive. The only industrial property in the Township is the site of the Consumers Energy Campbell Plant. The Township is also home to six miles of Lake Michigan shore line and 700 acres of open space (140 acres the Township owns coupled with 560 acres Ottawa County owns).

    Two beautiful township beaches and a well groomed county park are presently located in the Township. A new County-owned beach property is currently under construction. The Township also has bike path system of approximately 15 miles.

You must bring the coupon from the March/April newsletter, filled out with your name and address. There will be a fee charged for appliances: $ 30.00 for Freon appliances, $10.00 for non- Freon. Payment must be CASH. Items NOT accepted are: hazardous waste, tires, motor vehicles of any type and yard waste. Burning barrels will not be emptied or accepted.

Retirement Open House Thursday April 30, 9 a.m.-12 noon

Wayne Oosterink, our Building/Zoning Administrator will be retiring from the Township May 1. Stop in for cake and coffee Thursday April 30 from 9 a.m. – 12:00 noon as we will be honoring Wayne for his 20 years of service. You will also be able to meet our new Building/Zoning Administrator Nathan Perton. We are getting to know Nate and are confident he will do a great job in this position. So please stop in and introduce yourself to Nate and wish Wayne a great retirement.

Permit Fee Changes

Please note that as of April 1, 2015, permit fees for electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits will increase to $60.00 per inspection.

Special Township Board Meeting Notice Feb. 6, 2015

The Township Board will meet Friday Feb. 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.  to consider a resolution to place a question on the May 5, 2015 ballot regarding “MILLAGE PROPOSAL TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR LIBRARY SERVICES”

The millage proposal is a renewal of the library millage that has been in place for the past 5 years.
