• Port Sheldon Township, Ottawa County Michigan

    Port Sheldon Township is a general law Township established in 1924, consisting of approximately 20 square miles. The township is bordered by New Holland Street on the South, 144th Avenue on the East, Fillmore Street on the North and the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan on the West.

    A five-member board is elected at large to govern the Township, consisting of the Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and two Trustees. The Township population as of the 2010 Census was 4,240.

    Land use is primarily agricultural and used as residential with a small amount of commercial property along US 31 and Butternut Drive. The only industrial property in the Township is the site of the Consumers Energy Campbell Plant. The Township is also home to six miles of Lake Michigan shore line and 700 acres of open space (140 acres the Township owns coupled with 560 acres Ottawa County owns).

    Two beautiful township beaches and a well groomed county park are presently located in the Township. A new County-owned beach property is currently under construction. The Township also has bike path system of approximately 15 miles.

Firefighter Applications

Annual Clean-up Day

April 27, 2013 8 a.m. – 12 noon

On Saturday, April 27, 2013, the township will have dumpsters available for large items, scrap metal and appliances (a $30 charge for freon appliance and $10 charge for non freon appliance). No tires, yard waste, hazardous wastes, or motor vehicles of any kind will be accepted.  Also no emptying of burning barrels.

Please bring your service card with you for identification. Do not come prior to or after these hours.
