• Port Sheldon Township, Ottawa County Michigan

    Port Sheldon Township is a general law Township established in 1924, consisting of approximately 20 square miles. The township is bordered by New Holland Street on the South, 144th Avenue on the East, Fillmore Street on the North and the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan on the West.

    A five-member board is elected at large to govern the Township, consisting of the Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and two Trustees. The Township population as of the 2010 Census was 4,240.

    Land use is primarily agricultural and used as residential with a small amount of commercial property along US 31 and Butternut Drive. The only industrial property in the Township is the site of the Consumers Energy Campbell Plant. The Township is also home to six miles of Lake Michigan shore line and 700 acres of open space (140 acres the Township owns coupled with 560 acres Ottawa County owns).

    Two beautiful township beaches and a well groomed county park are presently located in the Township. A new County-owned beach property is currently under construction. The Township also has bike path system of approximately 15 miles.

Trash Service Reminder

Additional trash service hours in the summer months of June, July, August are Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.  Also, please note that Independence Day this year falls on a Wednesday, so trash pick-up that week will be on Thursday, July 5.

Summerfest 2012

Summerfest will be held Saturday June 23, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Township Residents are invited to the Township Hall grounds for free hot dogs & ice cream, games, music, prizes, and a pick-up softball game at approximately 1:30. There will also be fire department activities at the fire station.

Clean Up Day – April 28

Clean-up day will be Saturday April 28, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  Please bring your township services card with you and do not any leave items prior to or after these hours.

Yard waste, tires, hazardous waste, burning barrel contents and motor vehicles of any kind will not be accepted. There is a $30.00 fee for freon appliances and $10.00 for non-freon appliances.

Dog Licenses

Ottawa County dog licenses can be purchased on line at the County Treasurer’s website, by mail, or in person at the County Treasurer’s Fillmore or Grand Haven Office and also at participating veterinarians. A listing of these servicing veterinarians is posted on the County Treasurer’s website.
